Your colonoscopy takes about 20–30 minutes. You will receive sedation through an IV and will sleep through the procedure. The doctor uses a thin flexible tube with a camera to examine the inside of your colon. You will wake up in a recovery area and be discharged when you are alert and stable. Most patients have no memory of the procedure itself. You will not be able to drive yourself home.
All items are available without a prescription, usually in the laxative aisle.
Do not stop blood thinners on your own. You must get approval from your prescribing doctor first.
Aspirin and all other medications may be taken with a small sip of water on procedure day. GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound): hold for one week before your procedure — call us if you are unsure.
Iron residue in the colon can make it harder for your doctor to see clearly during the procedure.
Call us if you have questions, need to reschedule, or cannot complete any part of your prep.
Call before 5 PM when possible. After-hours calls are for urgent concerns only.

Avoid these:
You can eat: white bread, plain pasta or white rice, eggs, chicken or fish without skin, cheese, and well-cooked vegetables without seeds or skins.
You CAN have:
Avoid these:
If your urine is dark yellow, you are not drinking enough. Aim for light yellow or clear urine throughout the day.
Eating solid food today will cause your procedure to be canceled. Clear liquids only — all day.
Cold solution is easier to drink. Do not mix until today — the day before your colonoscopy.
Dulcolax starts working within 1–3 hours. Stay near a bathroom.
Bowel movements begin within 1–2 hours. Keep drinking even if you feel full — stopping early means incomplete prep. If you feel nauseated, try drinking cold solution through a straw and taking a short break between glasses.
Stop all eating and drinking at midnight. The only exception is the second half of your prep solution, which you will drink tomorrow morning starting 4 hours before your procedure.
Your clinic will confirm the exact time to start based on your scheduled procedure time.
Do not eat or drink anything after finishing this solution — including water.
This instruction may affect your procedure. Your clinic can help determine the next steps. Please call as soon as possible.
